Luis Margáin, Attorney at Law.

                                        ————————————————————

Our director, Luis Margáin, son of Don Guillermo Margáin, joined the firm in 1971 upon completing his law degree. He holds postgraduate studies in tax law and certification as a Distilled Spirits Technician.

His experience and positions include:

  • Member of the Technical Board for Alcohol Assessment at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) from 1975 to 1980.
  • As head of Margáin & Asociados, he served for 15 years on the National Standardization Committee in Mexico City, where the Mexican standards for the various alcoholic beverages and the Official Mexican Standard for Tequila were created.
  • He took an active part in drafting Title Five of the Industrial Property Law on Designations of Origin and in its processing before the different government bodies.

  • He promoted the repeal of the U.S. tariff on 100% Agave Tequila in 1989, sparking the premium Tequila "boom" abroad.
  • In the early 1990s he supported micro and small companies so that voting within the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) would be fair for all.
  • In 1994 he was elected President of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT) and was instrumental in driving the changes that introduced true Tequila to the world.
  • He was Legal Director at Tequila Herradura, part of the team that developed the El Jimador, Antiguo and Selección Suprema tequilas.
